The case against councils for parking fines could cause millions of parking tickets to be deemed invalid. The campaigners are arguing for the right to review the council’s parking fine system. Currently the council seems to get away with both sides, so the slightest misdemeanor results in a huge fine, but they often don’t mark areas properly, make mistakes with line markings and yet they don’t get pulled up in the same way we do.

I think this is a good idea, though I’m not holding my breath for it to be granted. I do think there should be more leeway applied to parking fines – there are so many terrible examples of parking that finding true offenders shouldn’t be difficult. Being a couple of mins late back to your car or misjudging your parking bay by an inch seems a bit too strict.
