Trials are due to start in Scotland on a male contraceptive injection, that could give couples an alternative to the pill. Each injection would contain a mix of testosterone and progesterone and be given every 2 months. This would cause sperm counts to drop significantly making these injections more effective than condoms for contraception. The effects would also be completely reversible making this a very real alternative for many couples once the trials are completed.

I do enjoy watching a few soaps, and Eastenders is one of my favourites. The Inside Soap awards gave 7 awards to Eastenders, including best actress to Lacey Turner who plays Stacey and storyline of the year for the death of Danielle. The storylines this year have certainly been interesting, and in true soap fashion snatch happiness away at every turn. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens later on this year.

Generally the rules are there to ensure everyone gets the protection and support they need, but in this case the rules may be too strict. Two policewomen set up a reciprocal agreement to childmind for each other so they could both return to work. Ofsted have stated that they need to be registered as childminders if they are getting a reward for looking after unrelated children for longer than 2 hours or for more than 14 days a year. For the women in question they will be unable to work if they’re not allowed to childmind for each other, it all seems to hinge on just what constitutes a ‘reward’.

You wouldn’t normally consider a biscuit to be dangerous, but a recent survey has revealed that a number of Britons are injured every year by their biscuits. These injuries range from scalding while dunking a biscuit to broken teeth on those extra tough varieties, to falling off the chair while reaching for the tin! The most dangerous biscuit was found to be the custard cream followed by the cookie. In comparison the safest options were the jaffa cake and the chocolate finger.

Getting a good night’s sleep is essential for good health, and sharing a bed might not be the best way to get it. Sharing a bed became the norm in the Victorian era when more people lived in crowded areas, before then it was more common to sleep apart. A study found that couples sharing a bed suffered 50% more disturbances, and could cause rows and even effect health. While sleep is not generally seen as a major health issue, lack of sleep has been linked to depression, heart disease, strokes and lung disorders.

One of the many options to take your children over the summer is Wookey Hole, where they can meet the new witch, Carole Bohanan. Previously an estate agent Carole is looking forward to her new role, although she is planning to redefine the role, being a glamorous witch rather than the traditional type. I’m sure Wookey Hole will be a great place to visit, combining fun and games with history and natural wonders in the caves.

You have to be very careful about what information you allow about yourself on the web, as it then becomes impossible to remove again, and can come back to haunt you at some point in the future. However, a new prototype system, called ‘Vanish’, has now been developed that will destroy data after a set time limit. This new system could make privacy possible again, something that was becoming rarer and rarer in the online world we live in today.

Getting married usually involves a certain amount of admin work as one partner or the other changes their name to show the new connection. For this couple though there was no change involved as they already share the same name! They actually met through their name as well, finding each other on facebook through a name search. It’s not all been plain sailing though, as a holiday nearly got canceled due to 2 places being booked in the same name. For their wedding they are using their middle names as well to show some distinction.

It really is amazing what you can train a dog to do. A New York animal trainer has taught her dog to read simple commands in just 6 weeks. Her terrier, Willow, will play dead at the word ‘bang’, begs at the words ‘sit up’ and will stretch a paw in the air at the word ‘wave’. It’s not just particular shapes either, as she will react to the words whether handwritten or printed from a computer.
