I like to think, for the most part anyway, that society has started to grow up and adopt a live and let live attitude to most things. However, this story of abduction and forced marriage once again proves me wrong.
I think it’s terrible that parents are still forcing their children into marriages chosen for them and not allowing them the freedom to choose their own lives. I don’t actually have anything against arranged marriages, it’s certainly worked for a number of people I know, but I think it should be optional, not forced. If the families all work together to choose someone suitable then there’s a good chance of it working out for all concerned.
